I was tempted to taste one to see. I have no idea at all what they are. Possibly some kind of succulent, maybe a kind of lichen, even. Each tiny red nodule was completely full of water. They were just clinging to any crevice or, really, surface texture of any kind on the granite floor....

It probably takes years to grow, so I was a bit leery of prying up a sample to bring home to study. My camera that has any sort of macro capabilities is officially dead (even though it was a POS anyway), so the camphone rendition is the best I could get. A new camera is ridiculously low on the list of priorities at the moment. :/
